Terminology can be difficult to learn in any subject, especially when local vernacular adds a special color to terms and their definitions, which is all too often the case with truck accessories, or, as we say in Kansas City, truckcessories. As a solution, we’ve carefully written a glossary of sorts, a dictionary of nerf bar terms. And while you may think of this sort of work as a form of primary school punishment slogged through whilst sitting in the corner and wearing a pointed cap, we take joy in educating the masses. So we proudly present below our Nerf Bar Dictionary.
Nerf•Bar \’nurf-bahr\ n –s: 1) A measure of highly durable metal running down a certain length of the cab of a pickup truck, usually including an extra-friction step area for a side step for truck, 2) A very cool, often aesthetically pleasing truck upgrade which travels in pairs Usage: Nerf bars are an attractive way to keep safe the rocker areas of your pickup truck or SUV. Run•ning•Board \’ruhn-in-böhrd\ n –s: 1) A flat, even truck side step under the cab, sometimes lighted for added safety 2) A classic, old style aesthetic enhancement for a pickup truck Usage: Running boards offer safe and easy access to the truck cab. High-grip surfaces provide running boards with added friction for entrance in slick conditions. Some running boards even include lighting systems. Truck•Step \’truhgk-stayup\ n –ii: 1) A pair of small, understated, nerf bar-like side step bars useful in entering and exiting truck cabs 2) A high tech, retractable step solution used to access a truck’s cab or bed Usage: Truck steps are small truck step up bars preferred among off-road drivers for their clearance area. Wheel•to•Wheel•Nerf•Bar \weel-ta-‘weel-’nurf-bahr\ n –s: A nerf bar extending from a pickup truck’s front wheel to its back wheel used for protection and stepping into the truck’s cab, of the family of side steps Usage: Wheel to wheel nerf bars protect the entire length of the truck’s cab, all the way back to the rear wheel.
