Here is my 97 GMC Sonoma cab on half of a 71 Chevrolet K5 frame. It is powered by a 450hp TBI 454, TH400 transmission, NP203/205 double transfer case setup setup with triple shifters to control the double low range gears and independent front/rear control. The power is transfered to a Dana 60 front that is loaded with chromoly axles, 5.38 gears, Lock Right lockers, Solid knuckles, Virginia 4×4 arms and PSC full hydraulic steering. The rear is a GM Corporate 14 bolt full floater loaded with a Detroit locker, 5.38 gears, and a truss with pinion guard from Blue Torch Fab. The axles spin 43×14.5-16.5 Interco TSL SXs on re-centered H1 double beadlocks.
Other cool stuff include rear cutting brakes, suck-down winch (purchased from StreetSideAuto BTW), roll cage door to accommodate the 3rd door in the extended cab. I built this from what was my 71 K5 but after wheeling a few years decided was just to big. Living in Wyoming the need for a cab and heater rates pretty high so the decision was made to drop a smaller cab on the K5 frame. An extended cab was found to make more room for gear and the dog.
Have wheeled this all around Wyoming, Black Hills of South Dakota, and Moab. Hope you enjoy!
