    Very Reliable Holley 12-801

    By KenDN

    Comments about Holley 12-801-1:

Replaced the original electric fuel pump on my 1976 Fiat 124 Spider in 1984 after it failed at 25,500 miles with a Holley 12-801 pump. At that time a 12-804 pressure regulator was added, too. In June 2006 I replaced a gasket after the pump head began leaking at 34,000 miles. For the past year the pump had been intermittent and so I replaced it at 34,800 miles with a new 12-801-01 only to find out the pump wasn't bad, just a relay. The original pump is apparently as good as new.

I am satisfied with the performance and longevity of the pump. Considering the car doesn't get much use, the pump fires right up every spring when the car comes out of storage. The pump isn't silent, but the noise isn't too obtrusive as it's mounted on 3 isolators in my application.

Worth noting is that, although the pump has the same model number as the on I purchased in 1985, the casting of the rotary vane enclosure is not the same high quality on the most recent vintage. But, that doesn't mean it won't be reliable, just observing it appeared to have have undergone some cost reduction efforts.

Based on my experience, I'd recommend this Holley model to anyone else looking for a low pressure electric fuel pump. It is great to know that it is reliable and rebuild parts are available to keep it lasting for a very long time!

    Comments about Holley 12-801-1:

Put this Street pump on a '86 Chevrolet 4x4 350 w/35 12.50x15 --4:10 Gears -- 700R-4 -- 355, 10 to 1, Headers, Flowmasters, Edelbrock Performer Intake & 600 cfm Edelbrock Carburetor. It ran so much better than the old fuel pump, you could actually feel the difference.

    As always, Holley Performs!
