About Intake Manifolds
The intake manifold is one of the easiest most common performance upgrades seen on muscle cars to imports. The even an free distribution of air is accomplished in the automotive aftermarket intake manifolds using higher qualtiy material and machining than the factory equipment. As engines accept modifications the stock intake manifold becomes inssufficient manufacutres like Holley, Weiand, and Edelbrock hep gain back the at power that is lost.
When changing the intake manifold make sure you clean the head to manifold surfaces completely and install new intake manifold gaskets to assure that now vaccum leaks occure. When selecting an intake manifold look for the Dual Plane and Single Plane options. Running at higher RPMS racing engines desire a single plane options to help them make power and torque on the top end. Using a Single plane on a street motor that will run at slower speed may cause issues affecting the cars driveability.
The dual plane intake manifold is a great choice for a street or strip car that is driven at a more normal RPM. A dual plane manifold is the most streeatable of any manifold and assures eqaul distribution of power. Check out Edelbrocks new RPM Air Gap technology, these manifolds have a gap under the carb and the manifold, this gap cools the intake runners thus making more power with a denser fuel charge. Vehicles that are on the edge of street or strip check out the Edelbrock victor junior. This manifold bridges the gap between the stock manifold and a high rise racing manfiold.
